louvre paris

For the regular readers, this is going to mean that your day just got better! Quite a few months ago, I posted about a heavenly reuse idea. Down the road from my home is the architecturally stunning Crystal Cathedral designed by the late Philip Johnson. (OK, now that California has voted in that we must teach about prominent gay and lesbians in our social studies class: yes, Johnson was gay and lived with the same partner for 45 years, and he did the addition to the famous Louvre in Paris [pictured above]! Anyhow, social studies lesson over.)

The Recap on the Cathedral

The Cathedral has fallen into a state of financial and organizational disarray, thanks in a big part to my next door neighbor, one of Reverend Schueller’s daughters (neighborhood gossip lesson over). The Cathedral is now up for grabs through bankruptcy and a friend of mine suggested that the Catholic Dioscese of Orange County purchase the property since they need to build a new larger complex for their headquarters. I had suggested that those of you who believe in prayer to put in a good word for this “heavenly reuse” idea.

Prayers Answered! The Update

Well, those prayers and positive thoughts made their way to the heavens and they are putting an offer in on the property. This is a wonderful way to make use of a perfectly lovely building that was intended as a house of worship. I am so hopeful that this deal goes through. I think it is respectful of its original purpose, respectful of conserving land use, and being good stewards of building materials.
